Fifteen Furlongs is a diverse collection of Anglo-American farm and frontier ballads (with completely original melodies and arrangements by Boxer John) covering a gamut of human emotions and situations. The lyrics were, for the most part, collected from two out-of-print books and carefully condensed to form narratives whilst maintaining the integrity of the original poems. The two books that formed the main lyrical source are "Farm Ballads" by Will Carleton and "Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads" by John A. Lomax, father of folk collector Alan Lomax.
